According to The Hollywood Reporter, HBO has announced the premiere date for the second season of The Last of Us. The second season will premiere on HBO on Sunday, April 13 at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT. The seven-episode season will also be available to stream on Max.
The Last of Us is based on the popular video game franchise of the same name. The game and series focus on Joel and Ellie, two unlikely individuals who have to work together to survey the now-infected wasteland. Through their adventures to reach their goal, they meet different individuals and perils. The second season will be set further in the future the same way the games were when the second installment of the game was released.
As per the press release the official logline for the second is as follows: “Five years after the events of the first season, Joel and Ellie are drawn into conflict with each other and a world even more dangerous and unpredictable than the one they left behind.”
The cast of the series includes Pedro Pascal (Kingsman: The Golden Circle) as Joel, Bella Ramsey (Game of Thrones) as Ellie, Gabriel Luna (Terminator: Dark Fate) as Tommy, and Rutina Wesley (The Official Queen Sugar Podcast) as Maria. It was previously announced that the new cast includes Kaitlyn Dever (Apple Cider Vinegar) as Abby, Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold) as Dina, Young Mazino (Beef) as Jesse, Ariela Barer (How to Blow Up a Pipeline) as Mel, Tati Gabrielle (Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) as Nora, Spencer Lord (Family Law) as Owen, Danny Ramirez (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) as Manny, and Jeffrey Wright (The French Dispatch) as Isaac. Catherine O’Hara (For Your Consideration) also guest stars.
Craig Mazin (Chernobyl) and Neil Druckmann (Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End), who developed the Last of Us video game, are writers and executive producers of the series.
