According to TVLine, the long anticipated premiere date is set for new comedy with actor Steve Carell (The Four Seasons, Minions: The Rise of Gru) who joins forces with Bill Lawrence (Charlotte Lawrence: Morning, Ted Lasso) in the new HBO comedy series, Rooster. Lawrence created the show along with the collaboration of Matt Tarses (Mad About You, Bad Monkey), as the director. Rooster is set on college campus and centers around Carell’s character, Greg Russo. Russo is a best-selling author who has a complicated relationship with his daughter, Katie. Charly Clive (Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping, Jazz Emu: Ego Death) plays the role of Katie.
TVLine mentioned the recent trailer suggests that Greg is on campus to help Katie after her separation from her two-timing husband, who is played by Phil Dunster (How To Train Your Dragon 2, Blake & Mortimer: The Yellow M), a fellow professor who cheated on her with a grad student. Lauren Tzai (Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, Game of Spy) portrays the grad student. During Greg’s time on campus, an undergrad student starts to refer to him as “the Rooster,” a character Greg created in his book that he decides to embody in real life.

McGinley (Ramble On, Hamster & Gretel), plus reoccurring actors, Connie Britton (The Family McMullen, The Life List), Alan Ruck (The Best Is Yet To Come, Corporate Retreat), Rory Scovel (You’re Cordially Invited, No Good Deed), Robby Hoffman (Dying For Sex, Let’s Go, Bananas!)and Annie Mumolo (Curb Your Enthusiaasm, Miracle Workers).
Rooster premieres Sunday, March 8 at 10 p.m. on HBO. The 10-episode series will be available to stream on HBOMax. With new episodes dropping weekly through May 10 via TVLine.
