‘Hawkeye’ Finale Post-Credit Scene Reportedly Cut; Scene Reveals Kingpin’s Fate

After last week’s Hawkeye finale, fans clammer for answers on Kingpin’s fate in the series. According to The Cosmic Circus, a filmed post-credits scene would reveal that Kingpin (played by Vicent D’Onoforio, Full Metal Jacket) survived the gunshot from Maya Lopez (played by newcomer Alaqua Cox).

In the finale, titled “So This is Christmas?”, Maya confronted Kingpin about her father’s assassination, orchestrated by Kingpin himself. The scene saw Maya pointing a gun point-blank towards Kingpin’s head, with the gun being fired but Kingpin’s fate left up in the air.

The deleted post-credits scene would have seen Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner, Wind River) sending Ronin’s sword he used to kill Maya’s father to Wilson Fisk. The sword is sent with a warning to stay away from Clint’s protege, Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld, Edge of Seventeen), and his family.

This is not the only post-credits scene allegedly cut from the finale. Visual effects artist Elaina Scott revealed that another post-credits scene would have revealed the fate of the Tracksuit Mafia members who were shrunken down by a Pym arrow and swooped away by an owl. However, Marvel decided to go with an extended scene of the Rogers: The Musical number seen in the opening episode.

Director Rhys Thomas spoke to Collider about the musical sequence. “It wasn’t planned that that was going to be the way that the show was going to close… I was curious, like, ‘Is this slot going to be reserved for teeing something else up?’ in the tradition that Marvel’s known for,” he told Collider. “[Marvel Studios] made the decision to put the musical at the end there, which honestly, I was slightly conflicted about because as a fan, I’m like, ‘The people, they want to see something, they want to know what’s coming next. Is this going to disappoint?”

Vicent D’Onoforio recently spoke to Collider about his return and what he hopes for the character in the future of the MCU. Before Hawkeye, he notably played the character in Netflix’s Daredevil.

The full season of Hawkeye is available to stream on Disney+.
