‘Happy Endings’ Cast Reunites For Zoom Reading Of A Special Episode

The cast of Happy Endings reunited after 10 years on Sunday night via Zoom. The six original cast members performed new scripted episode titled “And the Pandemmy Goes To…”, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Sony Pictures Television partnered with the original cast and executive producers of the ABC series for this special virtual charity event and live Q&A. The event was arranged to raise money for Color of Change and José Andrés’ World Central Kitchen to support racial justice and COVID-19 relief efforts.

According to a statement reported by Decider, creator and executive producer David Caspe (Marry Me) said, “For years, the people — and multiple networks — have spoken: They do not want this show to continue.”  Caspe continued by saying, “Undeterred, we were finally able to convince them to at least let us do just one weird Zoom thing, as long as we did it ourselves and it was for charity. So if you want to watch, please donate to Color of Change and World Central Kitchen, two incredible organizations fighting to make the world a safer, more equitable, just place for all.”

The six original cast members involved included Adam Pally (The Mindy Project), Casey Wilson (Marry Me), Damon Wayans Jr. (New Girl), Eliza Coupe (Scrubs), Zachary Knighton (The Hitcher), and Elisha Cuthbert (The Girl Next Door). Caspe joined them after their performances for the live Q&A.

The episode storyline addressed in the in-person table read was supposed to appear in Happy Endings’ fourth season, however the series was unfortunately canceled in 2013.

Despite it being ten years since the last season, the fan base has been loyal and patient. Knighton shared that the cast has talked about a reboot for the show in late 2019, but Coupe followed up saying that there’s much more to consider – including networking, crew, etc. According to Entertainment Tonight, Pally followed up saying, “I think it’s pretty cool though when you think about [how] this show started small and people didn’t know a lot of people involved in it, [and] now the creative people behind it — all the writers, directors —  have gone on to amazing jobs and things that have changed the culture. I think that is one of the coolest testaments to the whole thing.”

The entire series is currently available to stream on Hulu. Watch the Zoom reading of the Happy Endings special below.
