As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, and in time for the 20th anniversary of the beloved 2006 Disney Channel kids series, Musician Miley Cyrus is donning her signature wig for the eponymous character once more. The special had originally been announced in February, but the official trailer was released on March 10.

Cyrus played Hannah Montana’s title character Miley Stewart for all four seasons from 2006 to 2011. The franchise has spawned both a concert film in which Cyrus performs as Miley Stewart’s alter ego Hannah Montana and as herself, and a feature film.

mxdwn previously reported on Cyrus teasing the event in July 2025, where she hinted that something “really special” was in store for the show’s big anniversary.

The special, via The Hollywood Reporter, will have Cyrus revisiting the show with some recreated sets and never-before-seen archival footage. The trailer includes Cyrus visiting the Stewart family living room, and the Hannah Montana Closet with her mother Tish Cyrus.

Also included in the trailer are parts of Cyrus interviewed by Alex Cooper, host of podcast Call Her Daddy, and excited fans entering the studio for the special’s filming live.

Cyrus remarks in the trailer about the emotional reunion of her and the series, and this point is furthered with a shot of her with her father, singer-songwriter Billy Ray Cyrus – who also played the role of her father on Hannah Montana.

In a statement from Disney when the special was first announced, via The Hollywood Reporter, Cyrus shared in a statement:

“‘Hannah Montana’ will always be a part of who I am. What started as a TV show became a shared experience that shaped my life and the lives of so many fans, and I’ll always be thankful for that connection. The fact that it still means so much to people all these years later is something I’m very proud of. This ‘Hannahversary’ is my way of celebrating and thanking the fans who’ve stood by me for 20 years.”

Hannah Montana follows the story of teenager Miley Stewart (Cyrus) living a double life as pop superstar Hannah Montana alongside her best friends Lilly Truscott (Emily Osment; The Kominsky Method, Young Sheldon) and Oliver Oken (Mitchell Musso; Phineas and Ferb, Pair of Kings) and her brother Jackson (Jason Earles; Kickin’ It, National Treasure). Featured guest stars included Dolly Parton (Steel Magnolias, Joyful Noise), Brooke Shields (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Mr. Pickles), the Jonas Brothers, and Selena Gomez (Another Cinderella Story, Hotel Transylania).

As announced by The Hollywood Reporter, the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special premiers March 24 on Disney+.
