According to Deadline, The conclusion of the seven-season run of the Grey’s Anatomy spinoff, Station 19, is imminent. However, fans can anticipate one final significant crossover event with the main series. Meg Marinis (Grey’s Anatomy), the new showrunner for Grey’s Anatomy, hinted in an interview with Deadline that this crossover might occur towards the end of both shows’ 10-episode seasons. Marinis’ remarks coincide with the anticipation surrounding the premiere of the 20th season of Grey’s Anatomy, scheduled for this Thursday, March 14th.
Additionally, she hinted at forthcoming appearances on Grey’s Anatomy by two Station 19 series regulars who initially appeared on the medical drama: Bailey’s husband, Ben, played by Jason George (Eve, Sunset Beach), and Carina, played by Stefania Spampinato (Ford v Ferrari, Anonymous). This suggests that Ben will continue to be integrated into the Grey’s Anatomy universe.
“I haven’t read their last two episodes yet. I know generally where they’re going,” Marinis said in regard to the upcoming Station 19 crossover. “What I can tell you is that the Bailey and Ben relationship will continue to cross over. Those two actors love crossing over and it’s very important to them that what they do over here and what they do over there, that it’s one symbiotic thing.”
Marinis highlighted the “great working relationship and great personal relationship” she shares with the new showrunners of Station 19, Zoanne Clack (Grey’s Anatomy, The District) & Peter Paige (Queer as Folk, The Fosters).
“We’re constantly on the phone because I want to be able to help them any way I can succeed in telling amazing ends to their stories — whether it’s a crossover medical case or whether it’s Ben crossing over, whether it’s Carina crossing over. We’ll definitely see Carina on Grey’s at one point.”
When it comes to “that final crossover,” “we like to share catastrophes, that’s what I’m saying,” said Marinis.
What are the odds any of them rejoin Grey’s Anatomy for the next season?
“I don’t want to answer that because I don’t want to answer anything about Station 19 that I’m not only fully aware of,” Marinis said. “How they end their stories will help me determine whether or not I will be seeing those characters on Grey’s.”
The conclusion of Station 19 prompts speculation about the potential return of George and Spampinato to Grey’s Anatomy in the anticipated Season 21 renewal. George, who previously held a series regular role on Grey’s Anatomy before departing in 2017 to join Station 19, could potentially reprise his role. Similarly, Spampinato transitioned from a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy to a recurring role on Station 19 in Season Three, eventually becoming a series regular in the subsequent season.
