“Gods. Kings. Fire. And Blood”: HBO Reveals First Footage of ‘House of the Dragon’ In New Teaser

HBO revealed the first teaser trailer for its highly-anticipated fantasy series, House of the Dragon, via a press release. The new series, set for a 2022 premiere date, is a prequel to the award-winning, Game of Thrones, based on the novels by George R.R. Martin (The Winds of Winter, A Dance with Dragons). Check out the first footage below:

First revealed at HBO Max’s European launch event, the trailer previews the seven kingdoms 200 years prior to the events of GOT’s Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. House of the Dragon will explore Targaryen’s rule before the fall of the throne. The teaser featured several previously announced cast members including Steve Toussaint (Pine Gap, Shooting Dogs) as Lord Coryls Velaryon, Eve Best as his wife, Princess Rhaenys (Nurse Jackie, The King’s Speech), Matt Smith (Doctor Who, His House) as Prince Daemon Targaryen, and Paddy Considine (The Third Day, Hot Fuzz) as King Viserys himself.

According to the press release, the teaser also included new characters. Fans caught their first glimpse of the Velaryon family. Wil Johnson (Outlander, Waking the Dead) is set to play Lord Coryls’s younger brother, Ser Vaemond Velayron, who is the commander of Coryls’s massive navy. Viewers also meet the Velaryon children: John Macmillan (Chewing Gum, Back) and Theo Nate (Time) as son Ser Laenor Velaryon, and daughter Lady Laen, played by Savannah Steyn (Crawl, A Discovery of Witches).

Based on Martin’s Fire & Blood book, the prequel series is created by Martin and Ryan Condal (Hercules, Rampage). The two also serve as executive producers. Condal will serve as co-showrunner along with executive producer, Miguel Sapochnik (Repo Man, Bios). They are joined by executive producers Vince Gerardis (Game of Thrones, Flash Forward), Ron Schmidt (Black Snake Moan, Bessie), and writer Sara Hess (House, Orange Is the New Black). Sapochnik will direct the pilot and is joined by fellow directors Clare Kilner (How to Deal, American Virgin), Geeta V. Patel (Meet the Patels, Project Kashmir), and co-executive producer, Greg Yaitanes (Double Tap, Plan B).
