Ahead of the original Gremlins film’s 40th anniversary, Max revealed the title and release window for the second season of its animated prequel series, Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai, which premiered on Max back in 2023. The series is dubbed Gremlins: The Wild Batch and picks up where the first season left off, following the adorable Gizmo and his human companions Sam and Elle as they travel from their home in Shanghai to San Francisco. Their journey will be filled with battles against the supernatural, and they will pick up a few mysterious characters along the way. Steven Spielberg (Ready Player One) works as the executive producer alongside Darryl Frank (Halo) and Justin Falvey (Good Night Oppy).
This series will surely expand the franchise by introducing new and intriguing characters. The returning voice actors that will be reprising their roles are Ming-Na Wen (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), James Hong (Kung Fu Panda), BD Wong (Father of the Bride), Izaac Wang (Raya and the Last Dragon), AJ LoCascio (X-Men ’97) and Gabrielle Nevaeh (Monster High). They will be joined by an all-star guest cast that will be announced.
Max has released an announcement teaser, giving a glimpse into the animated series. This new season comes from Amblin Television, which produced Jurassic World Dominion, and Warner Bros. Animation, which produced The Lego Movie. The same team created and animated the first season. It is likely that the second season will follow the same art style. Other noticeable multi-season series made by Amblin Television are Animaniacs, Under the Dome and Roswell: New Mexico.
Gremlins: The Wild Batch promises to be a welcome return to the beloved franchise, offering a fresh adventure for longtime fans and a perfect introduction for a new generation. While waiting for further information surrounding the plot and release date for the animated series, the entire first season is available to rewatch on Max.
