Jake Lacy loved his time on the set of Girls, even if there was a chance that one of his costars would hit him.
Created by Lena Dunham, Girls ran from 2012 to 2017 and followed four young women through their lives in New York. Allison Williams, Jemima Kirke, and Zosia Mamet costarred with Dunham to make the show a very successful fan favorite.
On The Daily Beast’s Obsessed podcast, Lacy said that he “loved” being on the HBO series. He also recounted a scene where his character, Fran Parker, attends an art show with his girlfriend, Hannah Horvath (Played by Dunham), to make her ex-boyfriend (Adam Driver) jealous.
“We shot that scene. I think maybe we blocked it, but not really rehearsed it fully and [I] was just standing next to Adam, and [I] was like, ‘Oh, this guy might hit me in this scene,'” Lacy explained. “And that was so exhilarating,” He added.
Lacy continued to praise the set of the HBO dramedy. “I could ride my bike to work and show up and then have like some of the funniest, driest writing.” Lacy said. He then praised the mood and people on set, citing the environment as “really cool, fun, and collaborative.”
In Dunham’s recently released memoir Famesick, she revealed many personal revelations and accounts of aggressive behavior from Driver on the set of Girls. According to Dunham, Driver once screamed in her face and threw a chair at a wall next to her while they were rehearsing a scene. She also claimed that her and Driver had a very close relationship through the run of Girls, with Dunham wondering if Driver had feelings for her at times. A month after almost crossing an intimate boundary, Driver got engaged to his now-wife, Joanne Tucker.
“There’s revelations in there that I’m like, I had no idea,” Lacy said on Dunham’s memoir.
