Krypton has found its Lyta Zod.
According to Deadline, BAFTA winner Georgina Campbell (Flowers) has been cast in the David S. Goyer (Da Vinci’s Demons, Constantine, Flash Forward) and Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow, Sanctuary, Stargate SG-1) pilot. Campbell’s Lyta Zod is a cadet in Krypton’s military and the daughter of general Alura Zod. Lyta is also involved in a secret romance with Seg-El, Superman’s grandfather.
Goyer and Kindler’s Krypton, based on Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster’s DC characters, takes place at a time when the members of the House of El were treated like outcasts. The series centers on Seg-El as he struggles to redeem the name and honor of the House of El.
The pilot for the series is set to shoot in Serbia, and Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders, Sherlock) will direct the Goyer and Ian Goldberg (Dead of Summer, Once Upon A Time) script. Goyer, Kindler, and McCarthy executive produce the series.
Krypton will be Campbell’s television debut in the U.S., though she is an incredibly accomplished talent in the UK. She won a BAFTA TV award last year for her role as Ashley Jones in the BBC Three true-crime TV movie Murdered by My Boyfriend. She was most recently in Sky 1’s After Hours and in E4 comedy mini-series Tripped. Campbell can also be seen in Channel 4 and Seeso’s black comedy Flowers, which follows the dysfunctional and bizarre Flowers family. On the horizon Campbell is set to appear in season three of the Olivia Colman and David Tennant-starring crime series Broadchurch.
