Per Comicbook, the next installment in the Game Of Thrones universe on HBO will be A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms, an upbeat, much more light-hearted entry into the series that has attracted dragon lovers from all over the world. George R. R, Martin (Game of Thrones, Elden Ring) has confirmed on his blog, Not A Blog, that he has reviewed the cuts and claims that it’s “looking good, I think.” Maybe he is pandering for more cuts to view, we hope. Either way, he has also confirmed that the second season of the show is already in production.
News about the production of the prequel series doesn’t come as a surprise, as one of the lead actors who plays Egg, Dexter Sol Ansell (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes, The Midwich Cuckoos) will quickly outgrow the role. Taking the role of the lead character, Ser Duncan the Tall, will be Irish actor and former Rugby Union player, Peter Claffey (Harry Wild, Bad Sisters).
According to Comicbook, Martin goes on to say that he “Loves it lots, but not one to judge.” He also says, regarding the softer tone of the series when compared to the previous installments, “It’s a little more humorous. I hope the audience will be open to that kind of change.” With House of The Dragon established as a major hit for HBO and Game of Thrones hitting 44.2 million average views per episode in the U.S., it might be safe to say any installment in the series could steal the hearts of the dragon lovers.
A softer, light-hearted live-action series could actually be the perfect play to segue into the recently announced other spinoffs, specifically the three animated ones. With the other four spinoffs being announced as live-action, Martin’s dragon universe truly is “rolling rolling rolling,” as his recent blog post was titled. A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to premiere later this year on MAX.
