HBO just released the first teaser trailer for Game of Thrones season 6, and, well, lets just say they know how to toy with our emotions. If you’re still pulling your hair out over the season 5 finale, then you might want want to invest in a wig after watching this teaser trailer.
Because it almost entirely features John Snow.
Last week, HBO released a promotional poster for season 6 of Game of Thrones which featured a bloodied John Snow. No, that was not very nice of them. After the season 5 finale, the foremost question on every GoT fan’s mind has been: is John Snow really dead? Everyone is in denial since Snow is, at this point, one of the few characters viewers can sympathize with after everyone else was killed off. Clearly HBO is having way to much fun mocking our pain.
Game of Thrones, based on the A Song of Ice and Fire novels by George R.R. Martin has now caught up to all the books currently in print. Fans were hoping Martin might have finished and published the sixth and final book in the series this year, but the TV series may have to carry on without the final novel. Although, there is a rumor that Martin may finally publish the last book before season 6 premiers, but that may just be wishful thinking.
The released teaser trailer offers nothing in the way of unseen footage. All the clips, which mostly focus on John Snow, are from previous seasons. What will keep fans talking until the next trailer is released are the two voice-overs.
The first voice we hear in the trailer is from the Three-Eyed Raven (played by Max von Sydow who will be replacing Struan Rodger from season 4) who says, “We watch, we listen, and we remember. The past is already written. The ink is dry.” The Three-Eyed Raven’s narration is certainly ominous and suggests we better brace ourselves for what is coming, which almost seems like a preemptive apology for all the heartache we are sure to go through this coming season. While we are all freaking out about John Snow in the teaser trailer, what is perhaps the most significant part of the trailer is the return of Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead-Wright) who hasn’t appeared in GoT since season 4. At the very end of the trailer, he is seen in his trance-state with his eyes rolled back in his head. “They have no idea what’s going to happen,” he says. Thanks, HBO, for rubbing that in.
Season 6 of Game of Thrones premiers next April, but HBO has yet to set an exact date.
