FXX Orders Animated ‘Deadpool’ TV Show With Donald Glover

Deadline announced today that Marvel’s Deadpool character will be moving from the big screen to the small screen in the near future.

Deadpool, for those not tuned in to the comic book fervor, is a famously quippy and crass superhero with quite a bit of a dark side. The character was featured in the X-Men franchise, but can be most recently seen in the amazingly popular movie from 2016, where Ryan Reynolds fully embodied his dream character and accumulated award nominations and audience appeal alike.

You may ask yourself what network would choose to include such a foul-mouthed character? Why, FXX of course! The network (which also hosts similar comedy with their programs Archer and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) gave the new Deadpool series a ten-episode season order. Donald Glover (musician/actor/writer) and Stephen Glover have already agreed to become showrunners, executive producers, and writers for this new Deadpool.

The exact name of this televised version of Deadpool has not been disclosed yet, but the series is expected to debut in 2017 as an animated series. This latest deal is the network’s second collaboration with Marvel TV, after their shared success on Legion.

Nick Grad, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions, spoke highly of the development: “Donald Glover is an incredibly gifted and versatile artist who’ll bring the untitled Marvel’s Deadpool series to life with the same intense, singular vision as his breakout hit Atlanta. With the success of Legion, we’re looking forward to again partnering with Marvel Television to create a series that is bold, striking and entirely original.”

Indeed, the pairing of Deadpool with the pure talent of Donald Glover seems to be an exciting time for all. Jeph Loeb, who works with Marvel TV, also raved, “How much more fun could this be? Deadpool, Donald and FX – the perfect fit for the Merc with the Mouth! We’re thrilled that our relationship with FX that started with Legion continues with what is sure to be a groundbreaking show in adult animation.”
