FX’s ‘Atlanta’ To End With Fourth Season This Fall

Emmy-winning comedy series, Atlanta, from the mind of Donald Glover (Community, Awaken, My Love), will end after its fourth season, according to Consequence. The news came courtesy of FX CEO John Landgraf during the network’s Television Critic’s Association press presentation. The series, which originally aired in 2016, had been on hiatus since the end of its second-season run in 2018.

“After a four-year absence we’re graced with the return of Atlanta,” Landgraf explained via Consequence. “Donald Glover and his team have shot the final two seasons of this series. Season Three is premiering on FX on March 25th. And for the first time, the season [will be] streaming the next day on Hulu. The fourth and final season is slated to debut in the same manner this fall. The new season is everything you’ve come to expect from Atlanta, which is to say expect the unexpected. Sit back and enjoy the trip,” Landgraf chimed.

The surreal dramedy centers on Glover’s Earnest “Earn” Marks, a college dropout who returns to his hometown of Atlanta. Struggling to find employment to support his child with girlfriend Vanessa “Van” Keefer, played by Zazie Beetz (Deadpool 2, Joker), Earn maneuvers his way into becoming his rapper cousin’s manager. His cousin, Brian Tyree Henry’s (If Beale Street Could Talk, Eternals) Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles, reluctantly agrees to the partnership as they both struggle with the double-edged sword of fame in the music industry. The three are joined by Paper Boi’s eccentric friend, Darius Epps, played by Lakieth Stanfield (They Harder They Fall, Get Out).

According to Consequence, the series was set to air season three in 2019. However, production delays and the eventual pandemic pushed the series on long hiatus. Last year, news of the series returning to production sprouted, with the foursome filming on location in Amsterdam and other parts of Europe. They filmed the fourth season consecutively back in the States.

Season three of Atlanta is set to premiere Thursday, March 25 on FX and will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
