FX’s ‘American Horror Story’ Wraps with Series’ Biggest Finale

American Horror Story drew 4.2 million viewers and finished its third season as the No. 3 scripted drama on cable.

The finale of American Horror Story: Coven ended its third season with 4.2 million total viewers on Wednesday night, becoming the highest-rated season finale of the drama.

Coven opened to a series record of 5.54 million total viewers in October and the premiere ranked as the No. 2 FX series broadcast of all time (behind the sixth season premiere of Sons of Anarchy) as noted by The Hollywood Reporter.

As a comparison, the American Horror Story: Murder House finale drew 3.22 million total viewers, while the Asylum finale had 2.288 million total viewers.

The finale of the third season outperformed last year’s American Horror Story: Asylum by 69% in 18-49 (2.2 vs. 1.3) and 85% in total viewers (4.24 million vs. 2.29 million). Coven’s final made FX the No. one network among adults (18049) on all television during the 10 p.m. hour. It also ranked No. 3 in scripted drama on cable this season behind The Walking Dead and the final run of Breaking Bad.

American Horror Story is an anthology series that centers on different characters and locations, including a haunted house, an insane asylum and a witch coven.

The finale episode titled The Seven Wonders brought with encores 5.8 million viewers – 3.88 million of them adults 18-49.
