The Bear is coming straight to FX for the first time ever. According to Variety, with the incoming third season, The Bear will be airing a marathon of the first season, which usually streams solely on Hulu, on FX. The season one marathon on FX comes in anticipation of the new third season, which will air later in June.
The Bear will begin its FX marathon on Sunday, June 2. Every night, two episodes will be aired and will begin its show at 10 pm EST. The season one finale will then take place on Wednesday, June 5 bringing the marathon to an end.
The first season of The Bear, which came out in June 2022, swept award shows. The series brought home 10 Emmy awards including Best Comedy Series, Best Leading Actor in a Comedy, won by Jeremy Allen White (Shameless), and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy won by Ayo Edebiri (Bottoms). The second season then dropped in 2023 and earlier this month, it was announced that the third season was going to premiere June 27.
The Bear follows a chef named Carmen, or “Carmy”, who is tasked with taking over his brother’s sandwich shop after solely cooking fine cuisine in the top restaurants in the city of Chicago. He goes through the ups and downs of continuing a family restaurant along with his cousin Richie, and his sous chef Sydney. The second season then brings the team into grappling with the idea of transforming the sandwich shop into a place of fine dining. Recently, FX dropped the trailer for season three, and it looks like Carmy is still the head of the kitchen and is laying down the rules yet again.
It was also announced that Season three will all be released at once rather than being on a weekly schedule. With The Bear‘s high-stakes and anxiety-inducing nature, FX boss John Landgraf decided that it would be more enjoyable for viewers to watch it all at once.
“When we came back for Season 2, we debated, since we knew now that we had a hit, can we milk it a little bit?” He said to Variety, “Can we roll it out over weeks, more ‘Bear’ is better? We then thought that’s a rotten thing to do, to change it up for the audience,” he said. “The way that Chris makes it, even though the episodes are separate, there’s a whole vibe to every season so we decided not to change what we had already set in motion and I have no doubt that we’ll keep doing it because we did it in the past. Even if we could, I don’t think we’d change it now.”
The Bear season three will be available to stream on Hulu starting June 27. Tune in to FX starting June 2 for the season one marathon!
