FX Announces The Sex Pistols Limited Series, ‘Pistol,’ From Danny Boyle with Maisie Williams and Toby Wallace Starring

Film director Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) has been announced to join the development of a limited series for FX revolving around the British punk rock band Sex Pistols and its guitarist Steve Jones, according to Deadline. Based on a memoir from the guitarist, the series will consist of six episodes and will be titled Pistol. Created by Craig Pearce (Romeo + Juliet, The Great Gatsby), the series also features Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones) as Jordan in addition to Toby Wallace (Boys in the Trees) as Jones.

Jones’ memoir, Lonely Boy: Tales from a Sex Pistol, will serve as the source material for the limited series on the famed punk band of the 70s. In addition to Williams and Wallace, the cast also includes Emma Appleton (The Witcher) as Nancy Spungen, Fabien Frankel (NYPD Blue) as Glen Matlock, Dylan Llewellyn (Derry Girls, Holby City) as Wally Nightingale, Anson Boon (Crawl) as John Lydon, Jacob Slater as Paul Cook, Sydney Chandler (Jellyfish) as Chrissie Hynde, and Louis Partridge (Paddington 2) as Sid Vicious. Pistol will begin its production process on March 7.

Boyle, who has previously won an Academy Award in 2009 for directing Slumdog Millionaire, commented on the impact of The Sex Pistols on British culture. “This is the moment that British society and culture changed forever. It is the detonation point for British street culture…The Sex Pistols. At its center was a young, charming, illiterate kleptomaniac — a hero for the times — Steve Jones, who became, in his own words, the 94th greatest guitarist of all time. This is how he got there,” stated Boyle via Deadline

This news of an FX series on a classic rock band follows the announcement at the 2020 Disney Investors Day that the same network would be producing another limited series revolving around the British rock band, The Rolling Stones.

Currently, it is unknown when the series is expected to premiere for FX.
