Freeform Orders Mermaid Drama ‘Siren’

It’s been a busy day over at Freeform.

After the announcement that a reboot of the ‘000s cult classic Life Size was in development, Variety reported that the network has also greenlit Siren.

Siren is described as a “mermaid drama series” that also previously went by The Deep in previous developments. This is no ordinary mermaid story; according to Variety, Siren follows a mysterious girl who proves to the residents of Bristol Cove that magic does exist in the oceans. Her arrival spurs a struggle between man and the ocean, pitting humans against creatures that seek to take their home back from their two-legged counterparts.

The series is based on a story by Eric Wald and Dean White, who are also executive producers for the television show. Emily Whitesell is in charge of showrunning for Sirens, and works alongside executive producers Brad Luff, Nate Hopper, and RD Robb.

The series has been ordered for 10 episodes, and is expected to air sometime in the summer of 2018. However, Freeform has released the first glimpse of the mermaid tale in a trailer you can watch below:
