Premiering with their second season on Peacock, Saturday Night Live UK has added new cast member. According to Deadline, actor comedian Freddie Meredith (Such Brave Girls, Big Boys) will be coming on the show after his debut show Need A Light?
SNL UK started last year as a British adaptation of the original American version of the same sketch comedy for the Sky One network. It has an ensemble that includes Hammed Animashaun (Black Ops, The Wheel of Time), Ayoade Bamgboye (Moth Club), Ania Nicola Magliano-Wright (Deep Cover), Al Nash (Fool Me Once, Black Ops), Paddy Young (Mitchell and Webb Are Not Helping), George Fouracres (Whiskey Cavalier), Larry Dean (The Stand Up Sketch Show), Celeste Dring (The Bubble, Last Night in Soho), Jack Shep (One Day), and Emma Sidi (Starstruck). The show has similar sketches as the original with opening monologues, live music, and a version of Weekend Update. They even brought original cast members from the original SNL, including Tina Fey (30 Rock, The Four Seasons).
With Lorne Micheals (Saturday Night Live) as the executive producer and James Longman (The Late Late Show with James Corden) as the lead producer, it has become an international program that Sky has become delighted to have. Phil Edgar-Jones (Very Important People, The Mimic), chief of Sky network, tells how proud him and the creators are of the show’s production for season 2, worrying that the first season would fail from British publicity and TV industry.
The first episode for the next season will have Jeff Goldblum (Jurassic Park, The Fly) host the show on September 12th with music guest CMAT. The next five episodes follow every week before ending on October 24th and coming back in 2027.
Meredith is excited to join the cast saying that it is “the most iconic comedy show. It will undoubtedly inform everything I do for the rest of my career and I can’t wait for the experience.”
