With a new generation of Fraiser comes a new generation of actors and characters. According to Deadline, Paramount+’s reboot of Frasier has added additions to the cast. Jack Cutmore-Scott (Tenet, Kingsman: The Secret Service, Dunkirk) who plays Frasier’s son, Freddy, will have a roommate named Eve, played by Jess Salgueiro (The Boys, Letterkenny, Orphan Black). Nile’s and Daphne’s son named David will be played by Anders Keith (Frasier: Season 11 Episode 24 “Goodnight Seattle”, Variations). Previously announced cast member Nicholas Lyndhurst (Only Fools and Horses, Goodnight Sweetheart, Gulliver’s Travels) will play English college professor and friend of Fraiser’s, Alan Cornwall.
In addition to this casting news, fans also received a sneak peek at the pilot episode title and where the series will take place According to ScreenRant Casting Director Jeff Greenberg (Top Gun, Modern Family, Cheers) posted a script of the first episode of the new series on social media and it was quickly taken down. The now-removed post revealed the title of the beginning episode dubbed “The Good Father.” This is a callback to Fraiser’s initial pilot episode entitled “The Good Son,” where Fraiser flies to Seattle to be with his father Martin (Mahoney). So it’s very likely that Fraiser is moving again to be with his son in his hometown, Boston.
Unfortunately the majority of the original ensemble will not be returning for the rebooted series 30 years after the original’s pilot. Niles Crane, David Hyde Pierce (Julia, The Perfect Host) will not be returning for the reebot; Kelsey Grammer (Toy Story 2, Cheers) explained in an interview with People that “David basically decided he wasn’t really interested in repeating the performance of Niles.” Two other major characters Daphne Moone, played by Jane Leeves (Seinfeld, The Benny Hill Show, Murphy Brown), and Roz Doyle, played by Peri Gilpin (Hot in Cleveland, A Dash of Love, Mr. Robinson), are confirmed to not make an appearance. Last but certainatly not least is the late John Mahoney (Moonstruck, The Iron Giant, Say Anything) who played Martin Crane, Fraiser’s and Niles’ father who unfortunately passed in early 2018.
