Fox’s ‘Star’ To Be Made Into A TV Movie

According to Variety, this past May Fox Network announced the cancellation of their musical drama Star. According to Deadline, Star’s co-creator Lee Daniels announced about a month ago on Instagram, “The bad news is that Star is not getting picked up for series,” and that the rest of the story “is too long of a story to sort of cry about.” However, Daniels promised that viewers “have not seen the last of Star,” vowing to create a sense of closure for the fans.

Then, this past Friday Daniels took to Instagram again to announce the two hour long movie with a caption stating “Get ready for a two-hour GAG!!!!!” Daniels continued to add, “The good news is: we’re doing a movie of the week to wrap things up for you all. We’re going to make something real special for you to scream about, with all of our cast members – even the dead ones.”

According to Deadline, Daniels had been trying to shop the series elsewhere, and admitted on his video that those plans failed. He did not reveal any details about where the Star finale movie would appear, but it is believed that it will be aired on Fox, which is also wrapping up Daniels’ other show Empire this upcoming season. However, Fox Entertainment spokespeople have declined to comment about the upcoming movie of the week.

Star followed the lives of a trio of women that formed a musical group in Atlanta focusing on the trio’s chart-topping ambitions while addressing hot-button topics such as class, gender, and assault. The show starred Jude Dermorests as Star with Brittany O’Grady, Ryan Destiny, Amiyah Scott, Quincy Brown, Miss Lawrence, and Queen Latifiah. Lee Daniels and Tom Donaghy co-created and executive produced the show with 20th Century Fox producing. The show premiered in December of 2016 ending its third season this past May, but despite no release date yet Star will return for a movie of the week to wrap up their story.
