Fox’s Comedy Series ‘The Moodys’ Renewed For A Second Season

The Moodys returns to Fox with a second season, according to Deadline. Denis Leary (Ice Age franchise) and Elizabeth Perkins (Weeds) star in the comedy series’ second season, which is targeted to air sometime in the 2020-2021 season.

The Moodys features a close, yet slightly dysfunctional family and follows their misfortunes. Based on the Austrailian series A Moody Christmas, the show began as a holiday event comedy series with the first season airing during the holiday season.  The second season will not be holiday-themed and will be longer than the previous six-episode season.

The first installment followed Dan Moody as he spends his Christmas with his family, but things go awry when the secrets of family members are revealed. Leary stars as Sean Sr. and Perkins stars as his wife Ann. The remainder of the family includes their three adult children; Dan, played by Francois Anaud (The Borgias), is the youngest of the three and is considered the creative one. Chelsea Frei (Victoria Gotti: My Father’s Daughter) plays his older sister Bridget as the overachiever and Jay Baruchel (This Is The End) plays Sean Jr., the oldest and the family disappointment since he still lives at home with his parents. Other cast members of The Moodys include María Gabriela de Faría (TKM), Josh Segarra (Arrow), Kevin Bigley (Sirens) and Gerry Dee (Mr. D).

The series is written by Bob Fisher (Wedding Crashers), Rob Greenberg (Overboard) and Tad Quill (Scrubs). It is co-produced by CBS Television Studios and Fox Entertainment. Fisher, Greenberg and Quill join Leary, Perkins, Eric Tannenbaum (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Kim Tannenbaum (Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist), Trent O’Donnell (A Moody Christmas), Phil Lloyd (A Moody Christmas), and Jason Burrows (No Activity) as executive producers.

According to a statement reported by Variety, President of Fox Entertainment Michael Thorn said, “With The Moodys, we set out to brand the holidays in the only way Fox can – bold and unconventional. What we ended up with was a special show – and a family – everyone at the network fell in love with…Bob Fisher, Rob Greenberg and Tad Quill perfectly captured the hysterics of Christmas, with sharp banter and real moments of family togetherness brought to life by Denis Leary, Elizabeth Perkins and the rest of the incredible cast. Eric and Kim Tannenbaum and CBS Television Studios have been great partners on this series; and, simply put, we’re looking forward to The Moodys’ future adventures.”
