Drawing inspiration from Lawrence Otis Graham’s (The Senator and the Socialite) well-received book, “Our Kind of People: Inside America’s Black Upper Class,” Fox has announced a series adaptation starring Yaya DaCosta (Chicago Med), entitled Our Kind of People, according to Variety. The network released the show’s trailer following a teaser, which was released in late July.
Taking place in the affluent Martha’s Vineyard community of Oak Bluffs, the adaptation centers around the rich and powerful Black elite. Our Kind of People stars Morris Chestnut (The Best Man), Joe Morton (Eureka), Lance Gross (Dutch), Rhyon Nicole Brown (Lincoln Heights), Kyle Bary (Noah Wise), and newcomer Alana Bright, alongside DaCosta. The show hones in on the life of an ambitious single mom who aspires to redefine her family name through the success of her small business – a revolutionary haircare line.
The series, set to debut on Fox on September 21 at 9 p.m. E.T., is executive produced by Karin Gist (Jump In!), Lee Daniels (The Butler), Ben Silverman (Mansome), Claire Brown (Being Mary Jane), and Pam Williams (The Butler). An official preview for Our Kind of People can be viewed below.
