Fox International Channels Takes the MLB to Europe

Fox International Channels (FIC) has signed a multi-year agreement with Major League Baseball International  for the exclusive rights to broadcast MLB games across 30 European Territories. The Deal will start with a bang, with the broadcast of the 2013 World Series between the Boston Red Sox and the St. Louis Cardinals.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, The deal will span past the World Series to include  all MLB games including the All-Star Game, Home Run Derby, wild card matchups, Divisional Series and League Championship Series. One of FIC’s specialty sports channels, which have been expanding throughout Europe, will air the games.

Senior Vice President of International Business Operations at Major League Baseball Paul Archey said “The relationship with Fox International Channels allows us to expand our relationship with Fox and is an exciting development for our business in Europe. This deal exemplifies the growing popularity of baseball across Europe and will provide increased access to telecasts for our many passionate fans.”

 

The Agreement with MLB International is the latest in a series of deals by Fox International Channels to expand their rights for sports properties. Similar agreements have been penned for the rights to NFL games and Euroleague Basketball.
