Fox Cancels ‘Filthy Rich’ and ‘NeXt’ Following Lackluster Ratings

Fox has ushered two series to pasture with the cancellations of Filthy Rich and NeXt, according to Deadline. While both series were meant to run this summer, they were adjusted to a fall schedule after COVID concerns. Low ratings and future uncertainty contributed to the decision not to renew either show for a second season.

Filthy Rich centers on Kim Cattrall (Sex and the City, Police Academy) as Margaret Monreaux, the wife of a famous Southern televangelist and heir to a highly successful religious TV network. According to Deadline, Monreaux looks to inherit the sprawling empire upon her husband’s untimely death. But the inheritance is threatened when she discovers he sowed three illegitimate fruits, all which come for their share as his will instructed. The comedic family soap series was created by Tate Taylor (The Help, Ma) and starred Melia Kreiling (Tyrant, Salvation), Aubrey Dollar (One Small Hitch, Battle Creek), Corey Cott (Z: The Beginning of Everything, The Good Fight), Benjamin Levy Aguilar (Before the Dawn, Chicago P.D.), Mark L. Young (We’re the Millers, The Comeback), and Olivia Macklin (The Young Pope, Radium Girls). Steve Harris (The Practice, Diary of a Mad Black Woman) and Aaron Lazar (The Wolf of Wall Street, Bull) rounded out the cast.

John Slattery (Mad Men, Mrs. America) stars in the crime thriller, NeXt, created by Manny Coto (24, Dexter), according to Deadline. A tech savant, Slattery finds himself joining forces with a new law outfit to fight the latest threat to American life – his own AI technology. The very advancements he developed to make life easier have become an invisible enemy in the hands of a cyber criminal. Slattery is joined by Fernanda Andrade (The Devil Inside, Narcos:Mexico), Michael Mosley (Ozark, Seven Seconds), Jason Butler Harner (Changeling, Ray Donovan), Eve Harlow (Juno, The Gaurd), Aaron Moten (Disjointed, The Night Of), Gerardo Celasco (Moneyball, Person of Interest), Elizabeth Cappuccino (Super Dark Time, Otherhood), and Evan Whitten (The Resident, Words on Bathroom Walls).

According to Deadline, both shows garnered a 0.5/3 average among the 18-49 demographic in ratings. Fox stated both shows will air their 10-episode seasons to completion. To date, Filthy Rich has aired five episodes. NeXt will air its final seven episodes.
