Apple TV+ has released the full trailer for the third season of its science fiction drama series, Foundation. The third season arrives on the streamer on Friday, July 11. View the action-packed teaser below.
According to the official press release, the third season picks up 152 years after the events of season two, where the lone civilization, known as The Foundation, has flourished. Simultaneously, as predicted by scientist Hari Seldon, the Cleonic Dynasty’s Empire has waned. However, these two opposing forces must ally as a menacing threat, known as The Mule, seeks to control the entire galaxy through physical, militaristic, and mental force.
Led by Jared Harris (Chernobyl, The Terror), Lee Pace (Halt and Catch Fire, Pushing Daisies), and Lou Llobell (Voyagers, The Pilgrim), the Foundation’s third season has added a host of new faces to the cast including Cherry Jones (The Handmaid’s Tale, Signs), Troy Kotsur (CODA, The Number 23), Brandon P. Bell (Dear White People, Traitors), Synnove Karlsen (Medici, Clique), Cody Fern (American Horror Story, House of Cards), Tómas Lemarquis (Blade Runner, Snowpiercer), Alexander Siddig (Hannibal, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), and Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones, Borgen).
It’s been a long time coming for the show’s third season. First premiering in 2021, the critically acclaimed series earned a delayed third-season renewal in December of 2023. Due to production woes and the writer’s strike, most of what was initially conceptualized had to be reworked. Some creatives’ departures also shifted the series’ production time — most notably showrunner David S. Goyer’s (The Dark Knight, Dark City) departure as director for the entire season.
Based on the novel series written by Isaac Asimov (“The Bicentennial Man,” Foundation and Empire), the series is produced by Skydance Television, with Goyer serving as executive producer. Joining him are Bill Bost (World War Z, G.I. Joe: Retaliation), Dana Goldberg (The Tomorrow War, The Adam Project), David Ellison (Top Gun: Maverick, Fountain of Youth), Matt Thunell (Reacher, Cross), David Kob (Kypton, The Flash), Isaac’s daughter Robyn Asimov (Three Laws Safe: Conversations About Science Fictions and Robots), Christopher J. Bryne (American Gods, Star Trek: Discovery), Leigh Dana Jackson (The Old Man, Raising Dion), Roxann Dawson (The Closer, Coupling), and Jane Espenson (Game of Thrones, Husbands).
Seasons one and two of Foundation are available to stream on Apple TV+.
