Former President Barack Obama Will be One of Stephen Colbert’s Final Guests on ‘The Late Show’ as Long-Running Series Sunsets

As the American institution late-night comedy talk show The Late Show approaches its final episode on May 21st, according to Entertainment Weekly, Stephen Colbert (The Daily Show, Strangers with Candy) has announced that the former world-class diplomat in chief, Barack Obama, will appear on one of the final episodes as an iconic guest.

After 33 years on air, the show is set to close its curtains for the last time after Colbert became vocal about his parent company allegedly capitulating to the administration. Other critics have noticed that the decision may have leaned more towards the direction of huge overhead and dwindling viewership. Either way, the stage is set for a great farewell show with Obama sitting down next to the long-standing late-night comic at the newly minted Obama Presidential Center in Chicago. This will be the first ever interview from the newly erected structure, which some critics have described as the “Obamalisk” for its brutalist aesthetics. The Obama-Colbert interview will air on Tuesday, May 5th.

Colbert also gave fans a sneak peek at what he will be doing in his post-late-night era, as many of our former late-night hosts still hold a place in our hearts. “As we get close to the end, a lot of people are asking me what’s next for Stephen T. Colbert? Well, internet rumors continue to run wild,” Colbert proclaimed. “I’ve heard a lot of theories — everything from I’m moving to CNN to I’m announcing a massive wildlife rescue program to I’m running for President of the United States.”

“Next year, I will be president of an animal sanctuary dedicated to caring for the rare Blitzer Wolf,” he joked as the screen showed a picture of a bottle-fed Wolf Blitzer. The network looks to be changing up the script from the traditional late-night format, as it has announced it will replace the show with Comics Unleashed with Byron Allen. They claim they are still looking at other ideas for the time slot and that this is just a temporary move
