Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag, Solo: A Star Wars Story) was the center of attention at the 71st Annual Primetime Emmy awards, where she accepted three of the four Emmys for the Amazon Original Series, Fleabag. The actress-writer-producer is a sought after talent of late, which is why her new $20 million per year Amazon Studios deal comes as no surprise.
“Well, this is just getting ridiculous!” The actress exclaimed, receiving her third Emmy for the evening. “It’s really wonderful to know a dirty, pervy, angry, messed-up woman can make it to the Emmys,” she said, accepting her award for comedy writing. The critically acclaimed series Killing Eve, for which Waller-Bridge worked as a writer and executive producer, also took home three Emmys.
As a part of the three year deal, the actress will develop new projects to premiere on Amazon’s Prime Video streaming platform.
“I’m insanely excited to be continuing my relationship with Amazon,” said Waller-Bridge. “Working with the team on Fleabag was the creative partnership dreams are made of. It really feels like home. I can’t wait to get going!”
Waller-Bridge won individual Emmys for her writing and acting for the comedy series, Fleabag. Harry Bradbeer (Fleabag, Killing Eve) accepted an Emmy for directing and the series was also awarded with two Creative Arts Emmys, last week.
“We are thrilled to be continuing our partnership with Phoebe at Amazon Studios,” said Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon Studios. “As evident in her great success at the Emmy Awards this week, she is clever, brilliant, generous and a virtuoso on multiple fronts including writing, acting and producing. Fleabag has been a gift to our Prime Video customers and we are excited for what comes next from this brilliant mind to dazzle and delight our global audience.”
In addition to this Amazon deal, Waller-Bridge will also executive produce and star in the upcoming HBO comedic thriller Run, and has re-written the script of No Time to Die, a scheduled James Bond movie with guidance from Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Skyfall).
