‘First Wives Club’ TV Show Reboot Ordered By Paramount Network

A First Wives Club reboot is happening! The classic movie is turning into a TV series that has been ordered by Paramount Network. The series has been picked up for 10 half-hour episodes.

The announcement comes just two weeks after Paramount confirmed a pilot order for the project. Production for the series will begin in New York City this summer and will make it’s TV debut in 2019.

According to Variety, the comedy series is based off of the popular 1996 Paramount film First Wives Club, which was based off the 1992 book written by Olivia Goldsmith. The TV series will follow a group of women living in New York City who come together after their marriages fall apart, and find strength in their friendship and of course a little revenge.

Tracy Oliver will write and executive produce the series. “Tracy Oliver is a brilliant writer and the perfect visionary to bring this unforgettable story from the big screen to the small screen in a fresh and contemporary way,” said Keith Cox, President, Development and Production, Paramount Network, TV Land and CMT.

Oliver co-wrote the screenplay for the smash comedy Girls Trip, so we know she has some good jokes up her sleeve. “Girls Trip was one of the funniest comedies in recent memory and we know tracy will breathe new life, and some serious laughs, into these beloved First wives Club characters,” said Amy Powell, President of Paramount TV.

A First Wives Club TV series reboot was originally in development at TV Land before moving over to Paramount Network. Back in January, Paramount rebranded Spike TV to become Paramount Network. The network already launched a new limited series Waco, which stars Taylor Kitsch, but still kept some Spike originals such as Ink Master, Lip Sync Battle, and Bar Rescue.
