The new FX medieval drama debuted its trailer at Comic-Con.
The Bastard Executioner comes from creator Kurt Sutter, whose previous show, Sons Of Anarchy, just concluded in 2014. The Bastard Executioner tells the story of a warrior knight under King Edward I’s command who is broken by the horrors of the war and vows to lay down his sword forever. His respite from violence is short lived though and once it finds him again he picks up his sword and becomes the bastard executioner, according to Deadline.
The series stars newcomer Lee Jones as the bastard executioner. Also starring is Sutter’s wife and Sons of Anarchy star Katey Sagal, Stephen Moyer (True Blood), Flora Spencer-Longhurst, Sam Spruell, Darren Evans, Danny Sapani, Timothy V. Murphy (Sons Of Anarchy), Sarah White, Sarah Sweeney, Elen Rhys, Ethan Griffiths and guest star Matthew Rhys, according to Deadline.
The trailer, which can be watched below, is dark and gritty and provides a good look at the feel of the show even though little plot is revealed.
“I love history. I love theology. I love blood. It’s been very satisfying weaving fact and fiction to create a new mythology that combines all these elements,” Sutter said, back in May in a statement about the series order. “And with this extraordinary cast — Stephen Moyer, Katey Sagal and newcomer Lee Jones — this world explodes on screen. I love working with FX and Fox21TVS. They’ve been my family for 15 years. They not only tolerate me, they embrace my extremely disturbing storytelling sensibilities.”
Currently the series is doing reshoots in Wales now. Sutter also told the crowd at Comic-Con to expect to see him in the show but adds that through the makeup it may be difficult to point him out, according to Deadline.
The 10-episode series will debut this fall on FX. The series premiere will be two hours long.
