It is time to return to Middle Earth as Amazon officially released the first teaser trailer for its groundbreaking new Lord of the Rings series, Rings of Power, during the Super Bowl last night.
According to The Rolling Stone, Prime Video described the $250 million show as taking place during “an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and one of the greatest villains that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness.”
This would put the series smack dab in the middle of the fictional world’s second age, and after months of poster reveals and title reveals, the streaming service finally gives fans a first look at some of the integral characters of this new chapter of Tolkien’s mythos.
The trailer shows shots of multiple characters from the races of men, elves, dwarves and also a few monsters never before seen in the original movies.
Prime also let loose about what these characters will be facing as fans were taken away by the nostalgic shots of the Shire and the Elven capital cities. According to Prime, evil is on the return and it is up to our new band of heroes to find the source of this reemergence and snuff it out.
“These kingdoms and characters will carve out legacies that live on long after they are gone,” Prime video said again of their series to Rolling Stone.
Rings of Power will premiere on Prime Video on Sept. 2.
