Netflix has released a list of different first looks for their content list of 2024 upcoming shows and movies on the streamer, including sneak peek of the third season of Bridgerton, ComicBook.com reports. It features the beloved (definitely slow-burn) couple of Penelope Featherington, played by Nicola Coughlan (Derry Girls, Barbie, Harlots), and Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton (The Lodge, Lake Placid: Legacy, The Cut), affectionately named “Polin” by fans. This has been released to promote the premiere of the third season of Bridgerton, which will be released in two parts: the first four episodes will be premiering on May 16, and the last four episodes on Jun. 13.
According to ComicBook.com, the third season of Bridgerton focuses primarily on the love story between Penelope and Colin, based on the fourth book of the series under the same name. Penelope has decided that she will stop loving Colin, who seems to be her unrequited love. However, everything will change, when Penelope begins searching for a husband, especially one that will let her lead her double life as Lady Whistledown, the main source of news and gossip in the realm.
At the same time, Colin is back from summer vacation and has changed his look, but realizes that Penelope is ignoring him, after being his friend for a very long time. Disheartened from that, Colin tries to make amends with Penelope, by helping her find a husband in this new season. But when the lessons begin feeling…too real, Colin must understand if what he feels for Penelope goes beyond friendship. Another complication in Penelope’s life is her friendship with Eloise, who discovered her friend’s secret identity last season. Penelope’s double life itself makes it impossible to manage it all and her goal is to be able to find her love match, yet her freedom as a woman. (via ComicBook.com)
Netflix has confirmed in 2021, via ComicBook.com, that the show will be having a third and fourth season. But there are still no news as of which book the fourth season storyline will be based from. Fans were confused when the show announced that the third season was going to be based off the fourth book instead of going in order. The correct order is Benedict’s love story(book three), and Colin’s comes right after (book four). As of today, Netflix hasn’t released any statements explaining the reason for that odd choice.
“Bridgerton swept us off our feet,” Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s VP, stated in a statement via ComicBook.com. “The creative team, led by Shonda, knew the material and delivered a beautiful, emotional, romantic drama for our members. They have some exciting plans for the future, and we think audiences will continue to swoon for this show. We’re planning to be in the Bridgerton business for a long time to come.”
“From the first time I read Julia Quinn’s delicious Bridgerton series, I knew these were stories that would captivate a viewing audience,” creator of the show, Shonda Rhimes, agreed, via ComicBook.com. “But the evolution of this adaptation would not be a success without the many significant contributions of the entire Shondaland team. This two-season pickup is a strong vote of confidence in our work and I feel incredibly grateful to have partners as collaborative and creative as Netflix. Betsy and I are thrilled to have the opportunity to continue bringing the world of Bridgerton to a worldwide audience.”
If you want to watch the sneak peek, it’s available here. As previously stated above, the first part of season three of Bridgerton will exclusively be released on Netflix on May 16. The second part of the series’ third season will be premiering on Jun. 13.
