For quite some time now, there has been a lot of tension to say the least, among Americans regarding their mixed views on law enforcement in the United States. This can be attributed, in part, to the massive amount of media coverage of police activity caught on camera in recent years. Some of the wide known cases that have been covered on a national scale were the cases involving Eric Garner and Sandra Bland. And more recently, the footage of the South Carolina police officer who displayed excessive force on a high school student who refused to give up her cell phone. The media and the public’s focus on police activity in general has grown extensively. Especially now since their activity is more readily visible through cell phone recordings and through the usage of body cameras for some officers.
Now, in the midst of all the coverage of police activity, the new TV show “Shades of Blue” will give its perspective on the various “shades” that an officer in blue may have. Specifically, lead character Harlee Santos (Jennifer Lopez), an FBI agent who according to IMDb, will have no choice but to be a mole for the FBI’s anti-corruption task force.
Check out the intense trailer below:
The trailer reveals a lot about what JLO’s character Harlee Santos will face. Thirty seconds into the trailer and Jennifer Lopez’s character is seen helping to cover up a murder while telling her partner “the truth is in the paperwork.” This may very well be a preview of the slippery slope her character will undergo while serving as a spy for the FBI. The title “Shades of Blue” and the trailer itself strongly foreshadows some of the moral and immoral choices that many of the characters will commit throughout the show.
“Shades of Blue” will premiere on January 7th on NBC.
