It looks like the wait will be a little longer for fans eager to see how Brennan and Booth’s story ends.
The 12th and final season of Bones will now air sometime in early 2017, Entertainment Weekly reports. The Fox crime series was originally slated to air this fall. The final season of Bones was pushed back until early 2017 in order to make room for Fox’s new baseball drama Pitch, which will now be taking over the fall 2016 slot originally set for Bones.
Though there is now a longer wait, Bones fans have quite a bit to look forward to about the last season of the series. Last month, in an interview with TVLine, executive producer Michael Peterson revealed that they wanted to bring back fan-favorite character Zack Addy (Eric Millegan). “It seems like the right thing to do. I will say this: I know what the fans want, and as much of a roller coaster ride as we may put them through, we want to deliver,” said Peterson. “I watched the show before I was ever writing on the show, and I think what Eric brought to that character was fantastic. I’ll make a promise to try really hard to make it happen.” Peterson is not wrong about it being something the fans want, considering the Bring Back Zack fansite and app.
In a separate interview with TV Guide Peterson discussed the creepy new serial killer and how they will carry over into season 12. Revealed in season 11’s thirteenth episode “The Monster in the Closet”, Peterson described this new serial killer as having a morbid obsession with mother figures. “It’s going to have a profound effect. It is different than other [cases]. It really is going to psychologically mess with a lot of the characters. This is a person that can really haunt your subconscious.” According to Peterson, the new killer will make another appearance this season in the finale episode “The Nightmare Within the Nightmare”, before appearing again in the show’s last season.
The two-time Emmy-nominated, long-running series was created by Hart Hanson (Backstrom, The Finder) and follows an FBI agent and a forensic anthropologist as they investigate various deaths and murders. The series is loosely based on the novels and life experiences of Kathy Reichs, who also serves as an executive producer on the show. The series stars Emily Deschanel, David Boreanaz, Michaela Conlin and T.J. Thyne. Season 11 began airing on October 1st, 2015 with the season finale scheduled to air on July 21st, 2016.
