Netflix’s animated series Hilda, will make its final season debut at the Ottawa International Animation Festival this Thursday and will be available for fans to watch on the streaming platform on December 7. Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), voices the show’s main character, Hilda. Via Deadline, Kurt Mueller, EVP, Creative Content at Sony Pictures stated, “The production of Hilda, much like the show’s central storyline, has been a long, winding journey – and a deeply rewarding one at that.”
After just three seasons, the animated show is coming to an end. Hilda is a free-spirited and fearless blue-haired girl who discovers new friends, mysterious creatures, and fun adventures when she journeys into the city, leaving her enchanted home in the forest. According to Deadline, “The series is based on Luke Pearson’s graphic novels for older kids, which is published by Nobrow. Pearson and director Andy Coyle will appear at an Animation Exposé event during Ottawa to discuss the series’ art, Scandinavian folklore inspiration and classic comics, page-to-screen adaptation and the third season.” The series is made by Sony Pictures Television – Kids along with Canada’s Mercury Filmworks, and has won Emmys, BAFTA Award, and a British Animation Award among others since the airing of its first season in 2018.
The Ottawa International Animation Festival runs September 20-24 with Hilda premiering the first and second episode of the third season on the 21st. The festival is the largest North American festival dedicated exclusively to animation. Via Deadline, Chantal Ling, Vice President of Original Series & Co-Productions at Mercury Filmworks, stated, “While it is always tough to see the end of a series that has been so professionally gratifying, we are thrilled to showcase the latest epic adventures of our heroine Hilda in this final season at the Ottawa International Animation Festival and for our audiences around the world to be entertained when the series premieres on Netflix later this year.”
