Final Episodes of ‘BoJack Horseman’ to be Released Tonight on Netflix

The animated dark comedy series BoJack Horseman is coming to an end after six seasons. The final 8 episodes of the sixth season premiere on Netflix tonight at midnight.

BoJack Horseman has been extremely well-received during its six-season run on Netflix, and was included on many “Top Shows of the Decade” lists, including our Top 10 list here at mxdwn. The show has been nominated for two Primetime Emmy awards and currently holds prestigious 93% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The series follows the titular BoJack, a disgraced actor suffering from addiction and depression and the wacky, sometimes nonsensical escapades of him and his friends. The show is equal parts deeply serious and bafflingly comical, as is its main character. The first part of this sixth season showed BoJack trying to make amends for his actions by checking into rehab and reconnecting with old friends. The mid-season finale ends with BoJack taking a job as a professor at Wesleyan University in what seems to be the final step in turning his life around.

According to an advanced review from The Daily Beast, the second half of season 6 will expand on these ideas. Given BoJack’s past actions, reporter Laura Bradley notes that “the show faced a predicament: What kind of ending does BoJack Horseman actually deserve?” Bradley goes on to give a positive review of the final episodes: “Despite some rushed pacing, each character’s ending feels earned.” As for BoJack’s story, Bradley states that it’s not necessarily a happy or a sad ending. “Instead, the series lands somewhere in the middle. Rather than give BoJack a happy ending or even a redemptive one, BoJack Horseman grants him self-possession—and perhaps even contentment.”

The final 8 episodes of BoJack Horseman will premiere on Netflix tonight at midnight. You can watch the final trailer for the series below.
