Deadline shared the news of a new edition added to the FBI franchise being greenlit. The series FBI: CIA will go straight to a series without a pilot episode airing first. The franchise first started in 2018 with the mothership series FBI. Given the show’s success, the series expanded with its second show FBI: Most Wanted, and a third series FBI: International. Both shows will continue to run till the end of May. The fourth show was added to the franchise and will feature the CIA.
According to Deadline, the series proposed plotline follows an FBI agent who teams up with a CIA agent to create a task force that focuses on preventing domestic terrorism in New York City. With casting still in the works, the series previously teased three new characters. Stay tuned for updates about the highly-anticipated franchise.
Despite their successes, shows FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International recently announced their cancelation. However, producers are eager to continue those stories with the spin-off. FBI: CIA, a working title, remains in the works as casting and timelines have not been released yet. Fans speculate whether their beloved characters will be returning to the screen.
The two canceled series gained success for the plot of the shows. FBI: Most Wanted highlighted a unit within the FBI that chases criminals on the most wanted list. Some notable cast members were Dylan McDermott (Olympus Has Fallen, The Practice) starring as Remy Scott and Roxy Sternberg (Emerald City) starring as Sheryll Barnes. FBI: International follows another special unit, this time as the group investigates terrorism all over the world. Some cast members were Jesse Lee Soffer (Chicago P.D.) starring as Wesley Mitchell, and Luke Kleintank (Crown Vic) starring as Scott Forester.
According to Deadline, the new spinoff will include familiar faces such as showrunners David Hudgins (Friday Night Lights), Nicole Perlman (Guardians Of The Galaxy), and David Chasteenell (Back In Action). The group will also serve as executive producers. Universal Television and CBS Studios will be producing as well.
