Fate of ‘Cruel Intentions’ Adaption Up In The Air For NBC

Over the last couple of weeks we have seen networks announcing their upcoming Fall schedules that included the announcement of the shows that had been cancelled or renewed for another season.

NBC announced the cancellation and renewal of several shows.

Hannibal? Cancelled. Heroes Reborn? Cancelled. Truth Be Told? Cancelled. Aquarius? Renewed. Chicago Fire? Renewed. The Blacklist? Renewed.

The list is pretty extensive.

What was interesting however was that NBC’s announcements on the return or separation of shows from the upcoming Fall schedule was missing something. NBC had failed to list Cruel Intentions on either their renewal or cancellation list. Reasons behind that however could be as simple as Cruel Intentions was only a pilot idea that had yet to be approved or passed over for the Fall.

According to Deadline, NBC held a press conference early Sunday to discuss the possibility of picking up the aforementioned pilot. It was confirmed by NBC chairman Bob Greenblatt that there was still hope for the show to be picked up based off of the difference of the show compared to the shows they already have ordered.

“We’re still discussing it. There’s just so many shows that we have scheduled or ordered.” NBC Chairman, Bob Greenblatt

If the pilot does get picked up for production, Sarah Michelle Gellar is slated to be reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil. Reese Witherspoon’s role of Annette Hargrove would be filled by Kate Levering.

The 1999 movie was an instant hit with viewers and if done right, with the help of SMG, the television adaption could be just as great this time around as well. Not to mention how it’d be a  bit nostalgic for fans of the old movie.

Responsible for driving Cruel Intentions towards a television adaptation are Los Angeles’ Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin and the original writer and director of the movie, Roger Kumble. This duo is also behind the Cruel Intentions musical.

While fans are rejoicing over the news of their favorite shows returning or mourning over the shows they’ve lost, many fans are still left hoping that the show they want to see just gets a chance.

Are you hoping to travel back and re-experience the feelings invoked in Cruel Intentions? Do you think the show will get added to the line-up or passed over?
