The fourth season recently ended and many fans of Once Upon a Time are still wanting more. Well, now they got it. This summer, fans of the ABC series will be allowed to visit the real set of Storybrooke.
Although Storybrooke is set in Maine in the series, they film the show in Steveston, in Richmond, British Columbia. Steveston is a quaint, historic village by the sea, only about a half hour from Vancouver. It is in Steveston that Once Upon a Time comes to life. Shops, cafes and other buildings serve as the iconic locations for the show. Granny’s Diner, Mr. Gold’s Pawn Shop and the Rabbit Hole can all be found here in this village.
This summer, the town will welcome fans of the show in for a real Once Upon a Time experience. Frank Fernandez, who lives in Steveston, commented on this tourist attraction. “This is great exposure for our village,” said Fernandez at Steveston Coffee Co. Fernandez sells official Storybrooke coffee mugs throughout the year through his coffee company. “I thought it would be mostly moms and daughters coming to town, but whole families are coming, even dads and grandma,” stated Fernandez.
Michelle Dunn is a spokeswoman for Tourism Richmond and she commented on the towns exposure. “They come year-round just to soak in the atmosphere of Storybrooke, and especially during July and August to spot their favorite actors during the filming of the show.”
According to TODAY, fans can guide themselves through the town to hit up all of the big sights. At the Steveston Visitor Center, they can pick up tour brochure. In the center of town, they can also pick up some merchandise from the show, including T-shirts, posters, hoodies, and totes.
Even though specific dates are not set as to when the cast will begin filming season 5, Dunn made another comment. “I can tell you that they often tape the show or do technical set-up on Tuesdays and Wednesdays,” said Dunn, “and Oncers know that tips often show up on the Real Storybrooke Facebook page.”
If you are a Once Upon a Time fan, taking a trip up to “Storybrooke” in Steveston, British Columbia, would truly be worthwhile.
