Ewan McGregor In Talks To Return To Play Obi-Wan Kenobi

“These are not the droids you’re looking for.” Obi-Wan Kenobi has been a staple in the Star Wars films since the character first debuted in 1977 in Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope, when Alec Guinness played the character. Obi-Wan continued to be a pivotal character in the saga when Ewan McGregor portrayed Obi-Wan in Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace, Episode II: Attack of The Clones, and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. He later reprised the role as the voice of Obi-Wan in Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

There have been plans to make a stand-alone Obi-Wan film, but the discussion ended upon the unsuccessful stand-alone film Solo: A Star Wars Story. But luckily for fans McGregor is in talks to reprise his role for big-budget Disney+ series. According to Deadline, Disney+ programming plans are expected to be released during an on-stage presentation at Disney’s D23 Expo next weekend in Anaheim.

The announcement of a stand-alone Obi-Wan show follows the announcement of a series following The Mandalorian. The Mandalorian is set to be a series that is based on the class of warriors and bounty hunters that were first embodied by the famous character Boba Fett, who first appeared in Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope and has been a recurring character since. The untitled series is rumored to a prequel to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story that will star Pedro Pascal. The series is to take place after the events of Star Wars Episode VI: The Return of the Jedi. The series will follow Boba Fett on his volatile rim planets that are beyond the reaches of law and order. The series is expected to debut on Disney+ on November 12.

According to Deadline, Disney+ is also creating another Star Wars series starring Diego Luna and Alan Tudyk who will be reprising their Rogue One: A Star Wars Story characters Cassian Andor and K-2SO. The showrunner of the show will be Stephen Schiff.

No timeline or creative talent have been officially announced yet for the Obi-Wan show.
