The CW is making big moves to compete in the shifting world of TV. For the past few years audiences have been thrilled by the enormous amount of content available to them. Shows like Game of Thrones have shown that just because you may not be interested in the genre, the storytelling and quality take precedent. Superhero shows like The Flash and Daredevil have become massive hits, and anthologies like American Horror Story, American Crime Story, and True Detective have given viewers the chance to enjoy shorter, completed stories. The issue isn’t content, it’s the platform. With streaming sites dividing audiences, and ad free content appealing to more and more customers, it’s been a bit more difficult for networks to see the kind of numbers they are used to. The CW is expanding further into the realm of online entertainment. According to iDigitalTimes, The CW has announced that they will be making all of their shows available for free on their CW App.
The shows will be available for streaming on Roku, Chromecast, Apple TV, XBox, and Amazon Fire TV. Unfortunately for PlayStation users, there is no word on if the the shows will be available to them. The content will be available starting this week, but there are two important things to note; though the latest episode of their primetime shows will be available on demand and with no cable login necessary, older seasons and episodes will not be made available on the app as of now, and they will only be available to the U.S..
This probably isn’t the news that fans of of The Flash and Arrow want to hear, as both shows have recently finished up their latest seasons, but this is good news for those fans who don’t want to wait for the upcoming seasons to end in order to watch it. This is also important because The CW recently ended their deal with Hulu which provided fans with access to the most recent episodes of shows.
For fans who need to see the episodes ore season they missed of their favorite CW shows, a recent deal with Netflix will provide fans with access to completed seasons of CW shows just 8 days after the season end. Another important step for The CW in adapting to the changing times.
