‘Euphoria’ Guest Cameo and Crew Return in the Premiere of ‘The Idol’

In Sam Levinson’s (Euphoria) new HBO series The IdolEuphoria star Alexa Demie had brief cameo guest appearance during the premiere. According to E! News, Demie was seen very quickly and only a keen eye will be able to spot her amongst Lily-Rose Depp’s (The King) character, Jocelyn, and also among Jennie Ruby Jane’s character, Dyanne. It was noted that Demie was dressed in a similar way to her wardrobe and character Maddy Perez in Euphoria during her six seconds of screen time. Fans are curious whether or not she will be returning, for possibly a bigger part of the story.

The makeup artist on The Idol, Kirsten Coleman, is also a returning crew member onto Levinson’s set and universe as she had also worked on the first season of Euphoria, to which she spoke about the correlations between the two series and the hidden Easter eggs viewers can look out for. Specifically speaking to the way in which the makeup between The Idol and Euphoria relate, Coleman shared, “There is a heavy Euphoria influence. There’s glitter, there’s geometric line work, there’s a lot of those details that we’ve seen in certain parts of Euphoria.” It is only natural to see these eccentric elements in makeup within Lily-Rose Depp’s character Jocelyn, who is a pop star living an electric life. Coleman also added in regards to the character of Jocelyn, “When we meet Jocelyn, Euphoria and that world of makeup have already been happening. She’s doing what’s current and what’s expected of her, so there’s definitely ties in there.” Hence, simply put in the words of Coleman, “It’s art emulating life.”

Other references and sources of inspiration that was used to embellish the stunning makeup has been none other than the trends of Tiktok. “It’s this cycle that’s going on. And that’s what inspired me with Euphoria. We were looking on Instagram and at that time, it was more about art and less about beauty—people painting their faces and doing optical illusions. It is part of our culture now, so that is exactly why you would see it on TV and film.”
