According to Deadline, The Boys creator Eric Kripke ( The Boys, Supernatural ) admitted he was both impressed and slightly frustrated that fans of Prime Video’s spinoff Gen V figured out the Season Two Episode Seven twist ahead of its release. The showrunner said that the “very, very smart” fanbase pieced together clues online and discovered that Hamish Linklater’s character, Dean Cipher, is actually a non-Supe under the mind control of God U founder Thomas Godolkin (played by Ethan Slater, SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical).

As indicated by Deadline, Kripke discussed the announcement in an interview with The Wrap, saying, “I’m well aware that a lot of fans online have been picking apart the clues and getting on the right scent.” I give them credit. In the same breath, I am irritated.” The twist takes place in the season’s penultimate episode, “Hell Week,” and sets the stage for next week’s finale.

According to Deadline, the shocking episode shows Cipher tending to a burned body that is eventually revealed to be Godolkin himself. Believing she’s doing the right thing, Marie (played by Jaz Sinclair, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) restores Godolkin to health, unknowingly allowing him to carry out his plan to eliminate weaker Supes through Project Odessa.

Deadline states that Kripke credited Gen V showrunner Michele Fazekas (Reaper, Agent Carter) and executive producer Tom Schnauz (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul) for crafting the story’s major twist. “It was just a super cool twist and a really fun notion that this whole time you think Hamish is the bad guy, and then it turns out that the bad guy is actually Thomas Godolkin,” Kripke said. “Bringing it all back to the guy who founded the place in the first place that was really fun.”

As mentionned by Deadline, the episode also connects Gen V directly to The Boys as it’s revealed that both Marie and Homelander (played by Antony Starr, Banshee) are the only surviving products of Project Odessa. Kripke confirmed that the upcoming fifth and final season of The Boys will take place about six months after the events of Gen V Season Two.

Deadline adds that Kripke wrapped filming on The Boys’ final season in July, with the new episodes expected to premiere in 2026. Prime Video is also expanding the universe with several spinoffs, including The Boys Presents: Diabolical, the prequel Vought Rising from showrunner Paul Grellong (Law & Order: SVU), and The Boys: Mexico, executive produced by Diego Luna (Andor) and Gael García Bernal (Old).
