Eric Kripke (Supernatural, Winchester), the showrunner of The Boys, announced on June 11 via X that the superhero drama series will be concluding soon. He confirmed that the fifth season of The Boys will be the final season on Amazon’s streaming service.
Kripke also revealed in a press release by Amazon MGM Studios: “The Boys could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order. The cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we’re not sure what to write about.”
As reported earlier this year in May, the global Emmy-winning show was renewed for a fifth season on Prime Video. This renewal was announced at Amazon’s first upfront event ahead of the fourth season’s premiere on June 13. The stars of the fourth season include Karl Urban (Star Trek, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers), Jack Quaid (Scream, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse), Antony Starr (Outrageous Fortune, Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant) and Erin Moriarty (The Kings of Summer, Captain Fantastic).
The Boys is based on The New York Times best-selling comic book series by Garth Ennis (Preacher, Punisher) and Darick Robertson (Transmetropolitan, Ballistic), who also serve as executive producers for the Prime Video series. Additional executive producers include Seth Rogen (Invincible, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem), Evan Goldberg (The Great Canadian Pottery Throwdown, The Disaster Artist) and James Weaver (This Is the End, Good Boys).
The Boys is a very popular show on Prime Video. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the superhero series often appears in the top 10 of Nielsen’s streaming rankings when new episodes are released. “Nielsen is a company that measures audience viewership and popularity of TV shows and streaming content. The superhero satire is produced by several companies, including Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios, Kripke Enterprises, Neal H. Moritz’s Original Film and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures.
