According to Deadline, a worker on the set of Wonder Man died today. The death occurred when a rigger at Radford Studios in Studio City fell from a catwalk. When the crew member died, however, the show was not in the process of filming.
A spokesperson for Marvel confirmed the news, Deadline said. The spokesperson had this to say: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”
They continued, said Deadline, with, “Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues,” added President Matthew D. Loeb. “Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can. If you feel unsafe on set for any reason, members can call the IATSE Safety Hotline at 844-422-9273 or use our safety info app.”
The identity of the employee was later confirmed by The Los Angeles Police Department. The employee was a 41 year old man named Juan Carlos Osorio, and he was from Temple City. A GoFundMe page was set up by Osorio’s family, said Deadline. The link can be accessed here.
Despite the tragic death, Wonder Man is set to begin production next month. This comes after the delay caused by the WAG and SAG-AFTRA strikes that occurred last year, said Deadline.
Deadline also highlighted what the show is about, saying that it follows Simons Williams, who is a scion of wealthy industrialist according to the comics. However, his company is facing a losing battle to Tony Stark’s Stark Industries. Williams then goes to work for the villain Baron Zemo who gives him ionic the power of super strength. Though he began as an enemy, he becomes an ally to The Avengers.
