American producer Michael Klick, best known for his work on long-running TV shows like Homeland, 24, and Prison Break, passed away last Sunday in his Los Angeles home, according to Deadline’s Lynette Rice. The announcement came courtesy of a Facebook post by Klick’s daughter, Caitlin Hoey-Hick.
“My dad, Michael Klick, passed peacefully in his sleep,” Hoey-Hick wrote, per Deadline. “(…) My mom and I are in utter shock.”
According to research from Deadline, Klick began his career working as an assistant director on the set of various afterschool specials for ABC before eventually pivoting to producerial roles with 1998’s The Pretender. From there, he would go on to be nominated for four Emmys over the course of his career, two of which he won for his credits on 24 and Homeland. His last role before his death was an executive producer on the HBO Max drama Love & Death.
Per Deadline, Klick is survived by his wife of 42 years, Janet, and his aforementioned daughter Caitlin. “So many people knew him as Klick, or Mike or Michael, but my favorite title of his was Caitlin’s dad,” her statement continues. “He was my world.”
In her statement (via Deadline), Caitlin also emphasized Klick’s “long-lasting relationships with his co-workers” throughout his storied career. “His work in the film industry meant so much to him. He truly loved what he did.”
24 assistant director Nicole Burke was among many who shared their condolences. “Michael Klick, you were so much more than just a teammate — you were a true friend, a mentor, and the heart and soul of our 24 family,” Burke wrote in a tribute to Klick on Facebook, available below. “9 years and 8 incredible seasons together, plus a pilot or two you brought an energy and a spirit that were impossible to miss.”
Also via Deadline, in addition to his film career, Klick spent his free time going for bike rides, practicing yoga, and of course, spending time with his family. “My mom and I want to say thank you,” said Caitlin in a follow-up post commemorating the numerous individuals who have joined the producer’s family in remembering an industry great.
