The eldest Gallagher daughter is sticking around.
Deadline reports that Emmy Rossum has officially closed a deal to return for Showtime’s hit dramedy Shameless. William H. Macy, who plays deadbeat father Frank Gallagher on the show, also recently signed on for another season. Even though both Rossum and Macy have closed deals for more Shameless, with Rossum even tweeting about a May start to shooting, Showtime has still not officially made any announcement about picking up the series for an eighth season.
A season 8 renewal was initially up in the air due to a salary dispute between Rossum and Warner Bros. TV, which produces the series. The studio offered Rossum the same salary as Macy but Rossum, who has been steadily gaining screen time and has played a crucial part in recent storylines, held out for a higher salary than Macy’s.
Shameless has been a driving success for Showtime, still bringing in ratings and accolades seven seasons on. The series is Showtime’s highest rated series among adults 18-49 and is only second to Homeland in Live+same day ratings. Shameless has won and been nominated for multiple Emmy’s in its run, with Macy being responsible for three of those nominations. Macy has also won a SAG award for his role on the series, and was just nominated for the third time.
Playing Fiona Gallagher has been one of the great privileges of my life. I'm so happy to continue w my SHAMELESS family!Back to work in May!
