Deadline reports that Fox is in the midst of finalizing the cast for its upcoming medical comedy Best Medicine, an adaptation of the hit British series Doc Martin.
According to Deadline, Abigail Spencer (Suits, Timeless), Stephen Spinella (Virtuosity, Rubber), Jason Veasey (American Gangster, Friendship), Didi Conn (You Light Up My life, Shining Time Station) John Dimaggio (Adventure Time, Madagascar), Carter Shimp (The Year Between, Ghosts of The Void), Cindy De La Cruz (KillRoy Was Here, What Doesn’t Float) and doggie cast member Wattson have been cast in recurring roles. They join series regulars Josh Charles (Dead Poets Society, The Good Wife), Clea Lewis (The Rich Man’s Wife, Flying Blind), Annie Potts (Designing Women, Young Sheldon), Josh Segarra (Overboard, Friendship), and Cree.
As reported by Deadline, Best Medicine is a one-hour comedy that follows Martin Best (Josh Charles), an exceptional surgeon who unexpectedly abandons his high-profile career in Boston to become a general practitioner in an East Coast fishing village where he spent his summers as a child. However, his blunt and often tasteless bedside manner goes against the town’s eccentric and demanding residents, leaving him at odds with the very community that now depends on him.
While Martin has no trouble diagnosing the town’s medical mysteries, all he really wants is to be left alone. Instead, he constantly finds himself pulled into the residents’ personal dramas, petty rivalries, and wild imaginations. What the townspeople don’t realize is that beneath Martin’s curt exterior lies a debilitating new phobia and unresolved emotional issues that keep him from forming genuine connections. But in a village where persistence is a way of life, the locals might just be the unexpected remedy he needs, reports Deadline.
As per Deadline, Conn plays Councilwoman Geneva Potter; Lewis portrays Sally Mylow, the town pharmacist; Spinella and Veasey co-star as Greg Garrison and George Brady, co-owners of The Salty Breeze; DiMaggio takes on the role of handyman Bert Large, with Shimp as his son, Al Large; De La Cruz plays Jeannie, the local schoolteacher; and Wattson stars as Copernicus.
Fox Entertainment Studios produces the Best Medicine series with executive producers Rodney Ferrell (Enemy Women, Zorro) Philippa Braithwaite (Sliding Doors, Manhunt ), Howard T. Owens (Killing Kennedy, LFG) Liz Tuccillio (He’s Just Not That Into You, Take Care) Mark Crowdy (Bert Rigby, You’re a Fool, Saving Grace) and Ben Silverman (Mansome, Planet of the Apps). The series is distributed globally by Fox Entertainment Global in association with All3Media as per Deadline.
