Edward James Olmos Cast in ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Spinoff

Edward James Olmos is signing on with the Mayans.

Olmos (Battlestar Galactica, Miami Vice, Dexter) is the first actor to join up for FX’s Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC according to the AV Club. The spinoff is co-created by SoA creator Kurt Sutter and Elgin James.

Mayans MC takes place after the events of Sons of Anarchy, and will focus on Mayan MC prospect EZ Reyes. Olmos is set to play Felipe Reyes, EZ’s father, who once lived a life of blood and bullets before trading his past for the straight and narrow. Details are light on the spinoff so far, but judging from Sutter and SoA‘s propensity for violence the Reyes family will probably be facing a sizable amount of bloodshed. The addition of SoA characters to Mayans MC is quite possible, though considering how the series ended there are certain characters that definitely won’t be making an appearance.

The Oakland chapter of the Mayan Motorcycle Club was the charter present in SoA and was headed by Marcus Alvarez (Emilio Rivera).  The Mayans and SAMCRO had a rocky relationship throughout the series, constantly shifting between allies and enemies. If anything warrants the Northern California chapters making a trip down to the border, there is a chance we could see the return of Alvarez or Stockton President Oscar Ramos (Ivo Nandi).

Sutter will direct the pilot for the series. Sutter and James executive produce together.
