Eastbound and Down Airs One Last Season

HBO announced that its series Eastbound & Down will end after its upcoming fourth season. The comedy stars Danny McBride as lovable and despicable baseball player Kenny Powers. The series was rumored to end after its season three finale in April 2012, when Powers reaches the majors but walks away to return home and become a family man.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in July 2012, McBride, who had been hinting at the series end, said, “HBO definitely wants us, and [co-creator] Jody Hill and I love writing for the show… But there is other stuff we’d like to do. Both of us are ready to make jokes concerning people who don’t have strange haircuts.” Huffington Post confirms McBride’s statement, claiming, “A source at HBO said they would have been happy to renew the show for a fifth season, but McBride and co. were ready to move on.”

Rolling Stone reports McBride’s other engagements, playing one of the stars in post-apocalyptic comedy “This is the End” and serving as an executive producer of Chozen, the first original series for new network FXX.

The final season will consist of eight episodes and has already started filming in North Carolina. It will premiere September 29 at 10:30 p.m. ET.
